Maria OSTICK
Set As Default Person -
Name Maria OSTICK Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1836 Elksley, Nottinghamshire, England
- From the 1881 census where shown as aged 44
Although shown as born Darwen in the 1881 and 1891 censuses, she was shown as born Elksley in the 1891 and 1901 censuses.
The pre 1861 censuses have no evidence of a Maria Ostick in the Darwen area, but there is one born in Elksley, and the parish is in East Retford RD where Richard and Maria married.

, d. Dec Q 1904, Blackburn Reg Dist, Lancashire, England
(Age ~ 68 years) Married Dec Q 1860 East Retford Reg Dist, Nottinghamshire, England

GRO ref: Ainsworth, Richard to Ostick, Maria q4 1860 E Retford RD 7b 44
(the timing and combination of a Richard Ainsworth with the unusual name Maria Ostick on the same page strongly point to the marriage being of this couple, and it is in the RD where Maria was born)
Ostick is a fairly uncommon surname, found mostly in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire in the period 1850-1890.
However, there were also a number of Ostick births in Blackburn RD from 1865 - I suspect a sibling or other close relation of Maria may have made a similar move.
Of more importance to this tree, there was also a birth of an Ainsworth with the mother's maiden name of Ostick who does not seem to be a child of Richard and Maria, from the date of registration (q3 1864, too close to that of their son John William) and from his name (Allfred Ernest, when they already had an Alfred, still living).
This means it would be unsafe to assign other Ainsworths with a mother's maiden name of Ostick to Richard and Maria without further evidence.
Possible children:
The birth of an Amelia was registered in 1855, probably died 1859 and a James in 1859, probably died the same year (so neither will appear in censuses). These being before the marriage of Richard and Maria I think they were probably children of the other Ainsworth = Ostick couple.
In 1869 the birth of an Edward Percival was registered, died the following year (death registered as Edward Percy) and in 1882 a Richard was born, who died the same quarter. I think it quite likely that Edward and Richard were sons of Richard and Maria.
