  • Name John EASTLEY
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born Est 1586
    • Estimate based on date of his marriage, assuming it was his first. I think it likely that John was descended from the Ipplepen family, perhaps most likely a son of this John.
His first son was named John, possibly after himself but quite likely after his father - hence me preferring John as his father to Richard (however, at this time godparents names may still have been more important than parents names in naming children, though wills show that when they were still  living   grandparents were often chosen as godparents, so their names still got passed on).
Also, the John, the 'patriarch' of the Stokenham Issells named his first known son Richard; was he this Richard's son? Whilst it was far from unknown at this period for two children to be given the same name in the majority of families this did not happen (unless one had died), so this John and John of Stokenham probably had different fathers.
