The only baptism of a Christopher Halse in the right area / around the right time and the date fits with the age on his gravestone
Gender Male Administration 1741 Consistory Court of the Bishop of Exeter, Exeter, Devon, England - From list entry in Fry; register entry itself not believed to survive.
There was a court case concerning this, for which an abstract by Miss Moger at least does survive (to be viewed)Since Christopher must have died about the end of November (from date of burial), the admon. may well have been granted early 1742 New Style.

This shows there was a table tomb against the S wall of the church, set into the ground, with wording:
"... Christopher Hals * of this Parish who was ... buried Dec ye 3 1741 * in ye 55th year of his age."

Father John HALSE, d. Yes, date unknown Mother Joane MILWARD, d. Yes, date unknown Married 8 Jan 1681/82 Ss. Martin and Mary’s Church, Chudleigh, Devon, England - Possibly the marriage of Christopher's parents. However, a Joane Halse was buried in Chudleigh in Aug 1682, who may have been this Joane, and John could have remarried.
