Father William GOTHAM, bap. 29 May 1628, St. Mary’s Church, Abbotskerswell, Devon, England
, bur. 8 Sep 1701, Ss. Martin and Mary’s Church, Chudleigh, Devon, England
(Age ~ 73 years)
Other Partners: Elizabeth m. Between 1666 and 1669Mother Joane, b. Est 1633, bur. 14 Nov 1667, Ss. Martin and Mary’s Church, Chudleigh, Devon, England
(Age ~ 34 years) Married - Mothers name not recorded at time Hannah was baptised so it is possible she had a different mother. I do believe she was a daughter of this William as Gothams only seemed to live in Chudleigh from the arrival of this William.
Not finding the marriage of William to Joane (or any other wife) there could have been one or two children before Hannah.
A 'William Gadom' was buried in the parish in 1654. Although the name Gadden and similar can be found in Devon, it appears that none was in or near Chudleigh around this time.
This William's father was still in Abbotskerswell at the time of the protestation oath, but could have moved to Chudleigh by 1654, quite likely to live with his son in his old age. However, as there is a list entry for admon. for a William of Abbotskerswell being granted in 1648 it seems he probably died there. That suggests the William buried in 1654 could be son of this William. Although there seem to be plenty of baptisms recorded during most of the interregnum years, there were very few in a couple of years, including 1653, so it seems possible William, was born then. (The burial would not seem to be of a William who was a long standing resident in Chudleigh, as there is no William Gadom / Gotham or similar listed amongst those who took the protestation oath in Chudleigh in 1641).
