Cause: Drowned - Note in the register of Stokeinteignhead:
"About the latter end of this Moneth was drowned att Clavellie in a Herringe voiage John Varwell ['&' and start of another name - crossed out]" (under '1603', between 21 Aug 1603 and 16 Jan 1603/4).
Was it this John Varwell? - two of Susanna's brothers and possibly a brother of her sister-in-law Margery, wife of Nicholas, died in the following year's herring voyage.
Not only were there not a lot of John (F/V)arwells in the area, but a Susanne who I believe was the one married to John was recorded as a widow when she died in 1614; there are no other burials of a John om Stokeinteignhead before this date so I do think it was this John who drowned.
