  Notes	(Research):Details to be added about Robert and his family but until then: a Robert COTTON had a son Lawrence baptised in Whitchurch, Shropshire in 1682; Lawrence was buried there in 1690 (as son of Robert COTTAM). No more baptisms of children of Robert until 1692; I suspect that in the meantime Robert had been widowered and remarried. He may have been married to Lidia, who was buried in Whitchurch in 1684 (the burial register gives no clue as to her marial status or age). Children were then baptised in 1692 (Anne), 1694 (Mary, buried 1706), 1697 (another Lawrence), Margaret (1700, buried 1702) with father named as Robert Cottam each time. Another Margaret, father named as Robert COTTON, was baptised 1703 as daughter of Robert Cottam, buried 1705, father named as Robert Cotton. There are no other events for Gottams (or those with similar names beginning 'G') in Whitchurch around this time. I think it safe to assume William was the son of Robert Cottam / Cotton. Especially given that a William Cottam had 3 children baptised in Whitchurch 1719 - 1724' after giving a son is own name he named his next son Robert.
