Notes - (Research):Children
I am showing the John baptised in Staverton in 1615 as being the father of children baptised in Ashburton; if this is correct then he would have been an older father. The older than average age at marriage could possibly be due to the disruption of the Civil War years. It seems likely because when daughter Protesa was buried in 1656 and when Martha was baptised in 1663 John was shown as 'of Pridamsleigh / Prudamsley' [Pridhamsleigh]. Just south of the town of Ashburton, between Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, Pridhamsleigh is actually in Staverton parish, but Ashburton Church would have been more convenient.
The John baptised in 1615 appears to have been the son of the Thomas who had a share in a property at Pridhamsleigh, as described in a Chancery Court case in 1631; perhaps he took it on when his father moved to Ugborough.
(The average age for a man at this time was about 28; if John was a descendant of Thomas it is very unlikely I am missing a generation, because 2 marriages of c. 20 year olds would have been exceptionally rare).
