(His surname usually recorded as Gotham, but as Goatham in 1758, 1759, 1772 and 1773, and Goatem in 1774 - from transcriptions on GENUKI, original document not checked). A yeoman, in 1767 and one other year (uncertain which, probably 1765) he was noted as one of the parish constables.

- Nothing in the burial register to indicate if the burial was his, his son or another John, but his widow Elizabeth married John Tozer in Ipplepen the following year.
(That it was his widow who married John Tozer confirmed by John and Elizabeth's grave, which records that she afterwards married John Tozer. Also, John and Elizabeth Tozer had a son Henry Pinson TOZER, who was referred to as a brother by Ann, this John's daughter).
However, a gravestone survives for John which shows he died 1775 aged 37.
