Timothy GOTHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Timothy GOTHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1632 - Estimate based on bapt date of first known child, and on gap between siblings whose baptism records have been found.
His sons were described in a Court of Chancery case as nephews of Dinah Adams, suggesting Timothy was a son of William.
Gender Male Will - According to an indenture involving his son John in 1724, Timothy left a will:
"Timmothy Gotham father of the above named John Gotham late of Marledon deceasd by his ^ last will & testament made & Execuetd According to a due forme of law did give & bequeath unto John Gotham his sonn all his Goods & Chattles & made him whole & sole Execuetor of his last will & testament"
(it appears the will was shown as part of drawing up the agreement that the indenture describes)
Occupation 1655 Abbotskerswell, Devon, England
Workman for clothier - In his will, written 11 June 1655, Richard Sheres, a clothier of Abbotskerswell, left 5 shillings to each of his workmen and women, who included 'Timothie Gotham'.
It seems highly probable that it was this Timothy.
(PCC will, PROB 11/271/448)
Occupation 1682 Marldon, Devon, England
Clothier Occupation 1683 Marldon, Devon, England
Yeoman - Source: lease on life of "Humphry Gotham, son of Tymothy Gotham of Marldon, yeoman" (only seen cat ref)
(Date: 25th April 1683) - if I am reading this correctly - does it mean that Tymothy or Humphry was a yeoman?
Buried 3 Dec 1703 St. John the Baptist Church, Marldon, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 7 Jan 2015)
Nothing to indicate this Timothy, seems most likely given his age and no other burial that could be him having been found - or does the 'son of Timothy' in the 1706 burial refer to him (as the father) and mean that he was still living then?

"1. William Gotham the son[n]e of Agnes Gotham widow of this p[ar]ish and Mary Yonge the daughter of John Yonge of the p[ar]ish of Mar^ldon, were maried the xviith day of Julie ./ 1615" - under heading 'Anno Dmini 1615'
(Although I have not found a baptism record for Timothy, he seems to be a son of this marriage. This is based not only on the names he gave his children but also because it appears to be two of his sons who were defendants in a Court of Chancery case along with Dinah Adams, to whom they were described as nephews, and Dinah was a daughter of this marriage)

Family Katherine, b. Est 1640, d. Yes, date unknown Married - Katherine is named as Timothy's 'now wife' in indenture date 1682, Timothy could have been married more than once, and so ** Katherine was not necessarily the mother of all of his children. ** This wording could be more in case Timothy should remarry at a later date rather than imply an earlier wife, but even if so with no marriage date it is still quite possible Timothy had his children with more than one wife.
