Many, though not all, in the house and neighbouring houses had obvious army connections; perhaps Mary's husband John was in the army and that was the reason he was not at home on census night.

With just 3 of her children left at home, the youngest aged 12, Mary might have had an easier time - but no, her daughter Thomasine's three surviving children from her first marriage were now living with the family. Aged , 8 and 13 at least her oldest granddaughter should have been able to help with the household tasks.
Died Jun Q 1913 Chesterfield Reg Dist, Derbyshire, England - Mary is in the 1911 census, in Staveley (in Chesterfield RD), but her husband appears as a widower, still in Chesterfield RD, in the 1921 census.
This suggests she died between 1911 and 1921, probably in Chesterfield RD. There is one death registration of a Mary WRIGHT in that RD in that time period, of the right age, and so probably her:

Another possibility is a death in 1912. Although shown as aged 66, and so about 4 years older than this Mary, this Mary was shown as aged 63 in the 1911 census when only 61.
