Set As Default Person -
Name Jeremie WILDBORE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 1 Sep 1616 St. Mary the Virgin Church, Minster in Thanet, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 17 Dec 2019)
"Septembris 1o. Jeremias filius Jeremi Wildbore defuncti"
Gender Male Religion Between 1663 and 1677 Northbourne, Kent, England
Anabaptist - An article in Archaeologia Cantiana (vol. 21, p.172 ff.) concerns "Letters relating to the condition of the Church in Kent, during the Primacy of Archbishop Sancroft, (1678-1690)." transcribed from the Tanner MSS by the Rev. C. Eveleigh Woodruff, M.A. It includes a note of "All Benefices within the Jurisdiction of the Archdeacon of Canterbury," which Woodruff says appears to belong to the time of Sancroft's predecessor (Sheldon, 1663-77).
This note includes an entry for Northbourne Parish:
"Northbourne.— Value 50li. Patron the Archbishop. Incumbent
Mr James Burvile,† one of the 6 preachers, a right man. Forty
families or thereabouts, full of Anabaptists and Quakers, whereof
Wildbore, Slaughter and Verryer are the chief, poore fellowes.
Font and surplice providing.
† Vicar of Tilmanstone 1675— 1697, and Curate of Whitfield."
Jeremie's wife was described as an Anabaptist in her burial record and I suspect that that the reason there are a number of Wildbores for whom marriage and burial records can be found but no baptisms is because they had Anabaptist baptisms. Marriages had to be according to the Church of England, and all were entitled to burial in the churchyard of the Parish Church, although that had to be with no religious ceremony or according to the Church of England.
Buried 29 May 1696 All Saints’ Church, Waldershare, Kent, England
- At first it seemed likely this was the burial of this Jeremie: no baptisms found of younger Jeremies not other possible burial of this one. However, it could be a son or grandson of the same name. If the Thomazin buried in 1692/3 was his widow, then this cannot be this Jeremie's burial.
Since Thomazin's burial shows she was an Anabaptist. It may be that baptisms of descendants were Anabaptist ones and hence records not found in the PRs.
