    • GRO ref: Hyde, John Walker q2 1851 Worcester RD 18 429; GRO online index shows age at death as 72
Details from death registration (image of GRO copy).
He was an almsman in the 'hospital' at the time of his death. The death was registered by one 'Sarah Nicholas', who was present at the death and whose residence was also the hospital. She made her mark and I believe she must have been the 62 year old almswoman recorded as 'Sarah Nichols' in the census, just a few days before John's death.

Information about the Almshouses can be found on the Historic England website here.
Buried 21 Apr 1851  City Burial Ground, Tallow Hill, Worcester, Worcestershire, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From PR and BT entries (images on Ancestry, viewed 25 Jul 2024) in the register for burials in the parish of St. Nicholas, Worcester:
"John Hyde, No. 1311. C.B.G., abode: Berkeley Hospital, buried: April 21.st.., age: 72 years, ceremony performed by: Revd. E Faulkner Offg Minister" (transcription from PRs, only trivial differences in BTs)

I believe C.B.G. must stand for City Burial Ground, which was in the 'City Burial Ground'. This cemetery was on Tallow Hill, part at least under what is now Tallow Hill car park

    Notes
    • (Research):Whilst a move from London to Worcester is surprising, his middle name in the death registration which also records an age correct for this John Walker HYDE, together with a birthplace of West Ham in the 1851 census, point with virtual certainty to this being correct i.e. that John the son of John and Ruth did move to Worcester.

The entry is Hardwicke-style but handwritten, not in a printed register form, and there is no mention of parental consent (though there should have been consent, as John was aged just 19)

I'm hoping I might find descendants of John HYDE or at least Ruth PHILPOTT who are a DNA match to me, to add weight to my theory that my ancestor Robert HYDE was also their son. John Walker HYDE being probably the only other descendant of both of them is of particular interest.

Those with trees on Ancestry seem to descend from son George and there is good evidence he grew up and married; a glance at indexes to CMBs and censuses suggest Charles may also have had a family and the index to Worcestershire burials on Ancestry which finds that of his parents and sisters does not find his. Families of George and Charlesl to be checked. John also, though such a common name will be harder to track.
