with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Bef 1603 - Named (left a bequest) in the will of his uncle Sampson. I think it likely that his uncle was also his godfather, and that he was named after him.
Baptised - I think that one of his godparents was probably his uncle, Sampton Grills.
Reason:
Sampson's uncle, Sampson Grills, left him five shillings. The bequest along with that to another nephew, Oswell Horsham, are away from the bequests to their parents, Sampson's siblings, but just before bequests to a number of godchildren, most of whom, like Oswell Horsham and Sampson, were left five shillings. Both the position and amount suggest to me that Oswell and Sampson were also godsons.
