- Presumably Thomas attended a schoo in Stokenham, as his Seaman's Ticket shows he could write.
Occupation From 1840 to 1870 Mariner - Thomas first went to see as a boy in 1840. His Register Ticket was issued at Bristol on 8 Feb 1845, at which time it was recorded that when unemployed he resides at Salcombe.
By the time of his death in 1870 Thomas had risen to become a Master Mariner.
Physical Description 1845 - When ticketed as a mariner, in 1845, Thomas was described as 5ft 4 in tall, with light brown hair, hazel eyes and a florid complexion. He had a scar on his left eye brow.
Died 5 Jan 1870 Between Rio de Janeiro and Barbados, At Sea

"Death from Yellow Fever. - News was received here on Thursday of the death of Capt. Thos. Issell of the Nellie, who died of yellow fever six days after leaving Rio Janeiro for Barbados. Two of the crew also died of the same disease, and most of the others had been ill."

- I thought marriage would most likely have been at Dodbrooke but it was Honiton - what took them over there? Both were described as 'sojourners' in the Banns, which I guess is how the marriage was permitted, although their home parishes were shown in the marriage PR entry.
