Richard GOTEHAM
Set As Default Person -
Name Richard GOTEHAM Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Male Residence Abt 1537 Lower Hardres, Kent, England
Occupation Abt 1537 Collier - Although coal has been found and mined in the parish much more recently, there is no evidence of coal mining in the area at this date. 'Collier' was the term also used for charcoal makers, and it is almost certain that this is the occupation followed by Richard. This area is still quite wooded and would lend itself to charcoal making.
Charcoal was used by smiths, and whilst the charcoal Richard made might have just been used by smiths making and repairing farm implements, shoeing horses, etc., I like to think some of it may have been used for work on Canterbury Cathedral, less than 4 miles away.
Died Yes, date unknown Person ID I25074 All | England: Kent Group (in Go(a)tham One-Name Study), All in the Goatham / Gotham One-Name Study Last Modified 11 Aug 2020
