Family Sir Walter PAUNCEFOOTE, b. Abt Dec 1429, d. 26 Jun 1485 (Age ~ 55 years) Married - The Bampfield pedigree in Vivian shows that the vis of 1564 showed that Thomasine Bampfield had been married to one Walter Pauncefoote. No other information was given.
It seems almost certain it was this Walter since:
1. The surname Pauncefoot is a rare one.
2. This family are about the same social standing as the Bampfields.
3. This Walter seems to have had a sister Margaret who married Thomasine's brother, William.
4. A Peter Bampfield, possibly the brother of Thomasine and William of that name, was clearly a friend of Walter's, so it is likely the families knew each other.
5. A Chancery Court case concerning a marriage settlement concerns a Walter son of Walter and Thomasin daughter of John, and so fits with both of these families. It names property that from Pauncefoote IPMs clearly associates it with this particular Pauncefoote family.
6. Although this Walter had a son Walter and, judging by the Pauncefoote vis, a father also called Walter, it is clear that the son died married to an Isabel, considering his young age probably his only wife. Walter the father is shown in the vis as having a wife who was a Davers or Davies.
The estimated ages of Thomasine's siblings suggest she was an age to make marriage to this Sir Walter the most likely.
7. It is most likely a Bampfield from Poltimore would marry someone from Compton Pauncefoote than from Gloucestershire, where most other Pauncefootes seem to have been living at this time, with others more distant.
