Richard CROKHORNE, Gent.
Set As Default Person -
Name Richard CROKHORNE Suffix [ONS gp] Gent. Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Male Residence Childhay, Broadwindsor, Dorset, England
Died Yes, date unknown Notes - In the wills of Robert Morgan (1567), his wife Mary Stourton née Wogan (1595) and their son Christopher (1590) one or two John Crokhornes (Crewkerne, etc.) were mentioned. No relationship is mentioned but it seems likely to me that there was one.
In 'The County of Somerset' (Gerard, Thomas, 1633, ed. by Bates, The Rev. E. H., pub. 1900). p.135 under 'Bradwey' it says '... whose heire generall by Organ [Ogan] of Silvinch was Crewkerne of Chidhey [Childhay] in Dorsett'.
I thought this suggested that a daughter of John Wogan (Ogan) had married a Crewkerne, and given the will references I thought it was John they had married.
Mary is described as 'co-heir' to her father, which seemed to fit with the description of the heir of Bradwey being by 'Organ of Silvinch'.
In addition 'The County of Somerset' on p.140 (under 'Silvayne', clearly Selvinch / Selvinge) refers to '... the heires generalle of Ougan in our grandfathers daies parted this place betweene Sturton Larder Crewkerne &c. ...'
However, the visitation of Dorset (1565) refers to a marriage between Richard and Alice, daughter of 'Richard Owgan of Sylvens' and refers to the marriage of John in he next generation - but there were no Ogan brides. Unless 'Ricard Owgan' should have said 'John Owgan' I think, therefore, that the tree is probably as here.
