Family 2 Joan BOND, d. Between 3 Feb 1579/80 and 23 Jan 1580/81 Married Est 1529 - Date based on estimate of sons of Thomas, William and George's year of birth in thesis by J. C. Roberts (cited in History of Paliament entries for William and George). I have linked on tree with William as son of an earlier wife of Thomas, but he could be Joan's son, as explained below.
The bequests in Thomas's will suggest the birth order of his sons was William, George, Lawrence. Joan's will mentions her sons George and Lawrence but not William, although he was still living. Joan did not leave a bequest to George, although they do not appear to have been on bad terms: she appointed him as an overseer. I guess she felt him well off enough, through his work and / or his inheritance from his father. The lack of a mention of William could, therefore, simply be because he had been the main beneficiary of his father, and Joan considered George better placed to be overseer.
Thomas named 6 daughters in his will; I am assuming they are mentioned in birth order. Although only 4 are mentioned in Joan's will the two not named (Alice and Anne) are in the middle between the others, so I guess they were Joan's daughters, possibly she felt didn't need a bequest or had died. Although children are often named in birth order, unless the residuary legatee, usually in a man's will his eldest son, is listed last, it is not always so; the order in which bequests to daughters is made in Joan's will is different to that in Thomas's.
However, in estimating birth dates I have taken the order in Thomas's will. Obviously these dates are only estimates, based on an 18 month gap, the gap could have been larger, smaller or variable, and there may have been other children who died, and I have no idea how sons were positioned amongst the daughters.
