This baptism was also recorded in Worth, same day, by same priest. W. J. Groves was the Vicar of Sandwich but clearly often helped in Worth where he described himself as 'officiating minister' when recording ceremonies performed by him. (The Vicar of Worth, R D Backhouse, similarly helped in Sandwich at times). On this occasion it appears as though Groves may have forgotten which church the baptism was in and recorded it in both.
However, the register pages are headed 'Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of ...', and there is no where to record the venue; whilst private baptism (probably in the child's home) were often recorded as such there was no requirement to do so and the absence of an indication that it was private cannot be taken to mean it wasn't. Since Joseph died aged 2 days he may well have been baptised at home. Worth would then have been the correct register, as the family lived there, but they seem to have used Sandwich Church, so perhaps that is why the baptism was recorded in both registers.

    • "A Golden Wedding. - A correspondent
writes:- "Mr. and Mrs. W. Richmond, of
      Elms-cottage, the Elms, Ramsgate, reached
the 50th anniversary of their marriage on the
14th inst. This is rather a remarkable fact,
inasmuch as they have past through much
hardship and exposure during their lives. Mr.
Richmond was formerly Chief Officer of the
Ramsgate Coastguard Station, and has assisted
there and elsewhere at upwards of 40 wrecks."
