"Richard Simons the sone of John Simons & Arminel his wife was baptised th fifth day of December 1657" (mother's name: 6 minims after Ar, I wasn't sure if I had chosen the right letters; I thought possibly includes 2 'i's - I wasn't not sure if a mark is just a mark or the dot of an i. However, looking in the Oxford Dictionary of English Christian Names (3rd edn, 1977) I discovered Withycombe has an entry for Arminel, which he describes as 'a rare name which seems to be confined to Devon where it is still in use' )
