Henry GLANVILLE
Set As Default Person -
Name Henry GLANVILLE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1559 - Son of Matthew (according to Chancery case, C 2/Eliz/W11/11).
Just a rough estimate of date - just know he was younger than his brother John
Gender Male Status Gentleman - Describes himself as such in his will
Will 9 Oct 1599 - People mentioned in Henry's will but not yet added to this tree:
* Brother John Hamatt with wife and children (all living 1599)
* Aunte Alice, wiffe of Fulkes Forde (Alice living in 1599 - left bequest, Fulkes probably living as Alice described as 'wife of' not 'widow of')
* Cousin Edward Glandfeild, gentleman (living 1599)
* Sister Joanne Peter (living 1599) [is this Joanne Glanville the elder? - I think this is quite likely]
* John Gowman with children (all living 1599 - children left bequest, John appointed overseer)
Buried 12 Oct 1599 St. Mary’s Church, Totnes, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 16 Aug 2016):
"B[burial] The 12th was buryed Henry glanfylld stronger [stranger]"
(Archive reference 1863A/PR/1/1)
In his will Henry describes himself as 'of Ashburie' but bequesths lands, tenements etc. in Totnes, and also his 'apparell which I have nowe in
Totnes', so it seems reasonable to suppose he could have died and been buried in Totnes. Possibly taken ill while dealing with his property there, or possibly staying with John the merchant (brother?) because ill.

Father Matthew GLANVILLE, b. Est 1520, d. Abt 1582 (Age ~ 62 years) Married Aft 1545 - I am guessing if Matthew had been married by 1545 he would be in the lay subsidy listing for that year, but he is not found there.
Some examples I have seen of a person giving two sons the same name they were clearly sons with different mothers. I don't know if this was usually the case, nor whether it applied to daughters as well.
If it was usual then it would seem probable that Matthew married twice. (Even if not indicated by having two daughters Joanne, it was quite likely at this time).
In the absence of any information about wive(s) I am showing all the children as of one marriage.
