Occupation From 20 Sep 1714 to 10 Mar 1720/21 Beerferris, Devon, England Curate - Thomas was licensed as curate of Bere Ferrers, where his father was Rector, by the Bishop of Exeter, Offspring Blackall.

Occupation From 10 Mar 1720/21 to 2 Jun 1743 Beerferris, Devon, England Rector - The CCEd website shows that Thomas was instituted as Rector of 'Beere alias Beere Ferris' by Lancelot Blackburn, the Bishop of Exeter. The patron (who would have chosen Thomas) was one Thomas Pyne.
Thomas remained there as Rector until his death in 1743 (CCEd record; the date of 14 Nov 1743 is that on which his successor was instituted).
In 1727 a Hurrell was licensed as curate, but the identity is not known. It could not have been his son, who was then far too young; maybe it was the Thomas who was instituted as Rector of East Allington in 1730 (see below); it is apparent from Alumni oxonienses that that Thomas had graduated in 1726, so the timing would be right.
The returns to an episcopal visitation questionnaire of 1744 survive, online on the FODA website; obviously completed by his successor, not Thomas, but they give an indication of what the parish would have been like in Thomas's time. The parish seems to have been in good heart, with a good number of communicants; being so soon after Thomas's death, i.e. with limited scope for his successor to have made improvements, it suggests he did a good job as Rector.
Foster in Alumni oxoniensis shows Thomas as a double pluralist, being for some years not only Rector of Beer Ferris and Vicar of Altarnun, but also Rector of East Allington. However, it is clear that the latter was a different Thomas Hurrell: not only do the diocesan records show a successor appointed to be Rector of East Allington on the death of Thomas in 1737 (rather than 1743) but there is a tablet in East Allington Church in memory of the Thomas who was Rector their (as well as to his wife and young son); that confirms his death as being in 1737 (aged 32). (Devon Notes and Queries, vol II, 1903, p.104)
Occupation From 1733 to 2 Jun 1743 Altarnun, Cornwall, England Vicar - It may be inappropriate to show this appointment as an occupation, because I am not sure if Thomas ever worked as Vicar. A few months after Thomas was instituted a curate was appointed and I suspect it was he who did the work in Alternon parish, whilst Thomas lived and worked in Bere Ferris. (The 2 parishes are about 25 miles apart and even today it takes about 45 minutes to travel from one to the other by car; Thomas would have probably have travelled by horse and the journey would have been too long to do regularly).

I do think it was probably this Thomas who was appointed, due to the year of death matching.
Will 1743 Principal Registry, London, England - Thomas Hurrell, Clerk of Bere Ferrers is shown by Fry to have left a will but it is only known of now as the list entry.
