Father Thomas ROSE, b. Abt 1680, d. 9 Jan 1747/48 (Age ~ 68 years) Mother BASTARD, d. Bef 1747 Married - Plaque in his memory notes that Mary was his only child.
In his will Thomas describes Sampson Bastard as his brother-in-law, Anna Soper as his neice and also leaves a bequest to Æneas Symons. Whilst Thomas and Sampson could be brothers-in-law in several ways, the description of Anna and mention of Æneas suggest that Thomas was married to a sister of Sampson, of Anna's mother Ann and of Æneas' mother Alice.
Thomas' wife could be a sister I don't know of or Rose, for whom I have neither a marriage nor a burial. Rose seems particularly likely as Thomas's father left her a bequest but did not leave one to any of her siblings. Rose was not married at the time, and is described as the daughter of Richard's brother-in-law Bevill. Richard effectively left her £200, a not inconsiderable sum (that was the amount Bevill owed Richard, and he charged him to pay her the money). I suspect the bequest was in anticipation of a marriage between his son Thomas and Bevill's daughter Rose.
** This Bastard wife was not necessarily the mother of Thomas' daughter Mary. **
(I have seen nothing to suggest Thomas married more than once, but nor can I rule it out)
