At this time the minimum age for marriage for a girl, with parental consent, was 12. Given that a daughter was baptised the following year Isabella was probably not that young. If she were 15 or 16 she would still have seemed a young girl at a time most women were mid twenties (or older) when they married; only those with money could afford to marry young.
