John HELE, Gent.
Set As Default Person -
Name John HELE Suffix [ONS gp] Gent. Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1522 - Name of Walter's father from Vivian, citing the 1620 visitation.
Also, I have seen a reference to 'Nicholas Heale deceased father of the aforesaid John Heal' near the start of John's IPM.
Gender Male Occupation 1570 Yeoman - John described himself as a 'yeman' in his will, although he was described as a gentleman in his IPM.
Will 24 Mar 1570/71 Written - (Date given as 24 Mar 1570; regnal year also given - 13 Elizabeth, which confirms that as expected the date was OS)
John's will appears not to survive as such, it was probably proved in the diocese and if it survived to the start of WW2 was then lost in bombing during the war (though as Vivian describes it as 'recited' after noting the IPM it may not have been surviving by Vivian's time).
However, a large extract from it is quoted in John's Inquisition Post Mortem. Although the IPM is in Latin the will extract is in English.

The will of John Hele (d. 1571) - an extract
John Hele is a 13 x gt grandfather of mine. There is no evidence of a register copy of his will or the original surviving, nor any full transcript, but a large extract was included in his IPM, and it is that which I have transcribed.
Because an IPM was held to establish the heir(s) to land held directly from the Crown, it was only the part(s) of wills which dealt with such land in which they were interested, hence the whole will not being recited. In this case, though, the extract was a large…Died 28 Mar 1571 - From Vivian
Inquisition Post Mortem 21 Mar 1571/72 Exeter, Devon, England
- TNA ref: C 142/160/25
I have photographed this but so far have only transcribed the large extract from John's will.
(Bottom left corner is missing but otherwise in good condition and very readable - if only it weren't in Latin!)
Residence Luston, Holbeton, Devon, England
- Referred to in his IPM

Other Partners: Margery DUNE m. Est 1534Mother Dionis WOODLEY, d. Yes, date unknown Married Est 1612 - A rough estimate based on the estimated date of Nicholas' second marriage. It is likely he would have remarried quite quickly, and given that he had had at least 3 children with Dionis, and quite likely a couple more who didn't survive long, he may well have married somewhere around 1612.

Family Elizabeth POLLEXFEN, b. Est 1525, d. Aft 1571 (Age ~ 47 years) Married - Children of John and Elizabeth and their spouses from Vivian, who cites various MSS from the 1620 visitation (details at the foot of the previous page).
Given the provision in John's will for children not born at the time of his decease he and Elizabeth may well have had children up to a date closer to his death than my estimates suggest.
Besides the children shown in the 1620 visitation, Vivian shows an extra daughter Katherine, who married one John Cole. On p.214 he refers to her as being named in her husband's IPM, and also to a marriage settlement. I guess the latter shows her father was John Hele, but I don't know if it provides evdience it was this John Hele, so for the moment have left her off this tree.
