Father William STRODE, b. 1512, d. 5 May 1579 (Age 67 years) Mother Elizabeth COURTENAY, b. Bef 1515, d. Yes, date unknown Married - That William Strode of Newnham married Elizabeth, daughter of Phillip Courtney of Molland, was recorded in the 1620 visitation (Strowde pedigree). Unfortunately which Philip was not shown, and the information was not on the Courtenay pedigree. Vivian shows Philip, the son of Sir Philip and Elizabeth, widow of William Hindeston, as the one who married Joane and was father of this Elizabeth, but Pole shows it as another Philip, the son of William, brother of the Philip Vivian suggests. I don't know any dates well enough to rule either out, or even suggest which is most likely.
Both Vivian and Pole consider that Elizabeth's mother was Jone (or Jane) Fowell, daughter of Richard Fowell of Fowelscombe, although the Fowell pedigree in 1620 did not include her.
