  Heraldry	The arms of the Killiow family of Lansallos, which John would have inherited, are said to be or., a chevron between two roses in chief and a mullet in base, sable (according to Vivian, Cornwall Vis.) Other descriptions are similar but vary a little - sometimes the roses are said to be cinquefoils, sometimes the mullet an estoile. John's tomb shows his arms with a cadency mark indicating he was a second son.

  	According to Gilbert (The Parochial History of Cornwall, 1838, vol. 1, p.319) West-north formerly belonged to the Kendalls of Treworgye until in the time of Edward IV (1461-83) through the marriage of a Kendall daughter to a Kellyow it passed to the Kellyows. According to Gilbert a daughter of that marriage married a Bastard in the time of Henry VIII. I think it more likely a great or (most likely, and shown here) great great granddaughter of that marriage, if the date is correct; the marriage of Anne Killyow to Joseph Bastard was approximately 40 years after the death of Henry VIII!
