  • Name William WOOD
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
Born Abt 1831  (possibly), Lynsted, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Some uncertainty here as the censuses show various places of birth for William; 1871 and 1881 show Lynsted, 1891 shows Kingsdown and 1901, Tonge.
His ages are not consistent either going from 39 in 1871 to 48, 59, 70 - generally suggesting about 1831, but while the 1881 suggests he was born 1832 or 3, the 1901 census suggests 1830 or 31.
Given that William Wood was a common name it is difficult to be sure which was the right one. As he was 'of Tong' when he married, he was probably the William Wood living in Tonge at the time of the 1861 census, age given as 27 (suggesting born 1833 or 4); there the parish of his birth is shown as unknown! (As a lodger, this information may be less reliable as provided by the head of the household)

From the above William Son of William (a labourer) and Amelia Wood, baptised in Lynsted on 3 Mar 1831 is clearly a possibility but more research would be needed to be sure.
    Gender Male
    Occupation From 1861 to 1901
    Ag Lab
Residence 1881  Yaugher Lane, Hartlip, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • With his wife and daughter Olive.
Died Sep Q 1914  Milton Reg Dist, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Whilst being sure which death is his, especially given the variability in his age in census entries, the most likely would seem to be:
      GRO ref: Wood, William q3 1914 aged 84 Milton RD 2a 1030
This is the only death registered in Milton RD of a William Wood whose age suggests born between 1825 and 1835.
Milton RD seems most likely as he was there in 1901 (in Hartlip) and probably still there in 1907 when his wife's death was registered there and would seem most likely to be the William Wood there in 1911.
However, he could have moved to live with a daughter; the only one in Gravesend (where daughter Frances was living) was before the death of his wife so that seems unlikely.
Buried 5 Aug 1914  St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Hartlip, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location

    • GRO ref: Wood, William to Dalton, Emma q4 1863 Milton RD 2a 1225
Marriage probably at Tonge because banns suggest Lynsted or Tonge and not at Lynsted (have browsed PR entries) and both GRO ref. and Kent registration services ref. are consistent with Tonge but not Lynsted.
