Family William ELLEN, d. Yes, date unknown Banns of marriage 26 Sep 1762 to 10 Oct 1762 St. Lawrence’s Church, Godmersham, Kent, England
- Register entry (from image on FMP, viewed 5 Aug 2015)
"Banns of Marriage between William Ellen of the Parish of Elmsted
and Abigail Halke of this Parish
were published on the three Sundays underwritten:
That is to say, On Sunday, the 26th. of Sepr. 1762 by me E: Filmer Rector of Crundale
On Sunday, the 3d. of October 1762 by me E: Filmer Rectr of Crundale
On Sunday, the 10th. of October 1762 by me E: Filmer Rectr: of Crundale"
Married 13 Oct 1762 St. James the Great Church, Elmstead, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 5 Aug 2015)
"1762 Oct 13 William Ellen of this Parish & Abigail Halke of Godmersham were married by Banns"
Gravestone shows Abigail was the daughter of a William Halke as well as the wife of William Ellen, and is next to that of the William Halke who I believe was her father (and which mentions his daughter Abigail), so there can be little doubt that it was this Abigail who married William Ellen, despite her being unexpectedly shown as 'of Godmersham' at the time of her marriage.
Five children listed (William, Thomas, Halke, Mary and Elizabeth) were those left a bequest by their aunt Frances Halke, and so living when she wrote her will in Nov 1790.
