Notes - Described without a Christian name in the will of her uncle Richard Halke of 1578 - 'Kennards wief beinge the Daughter of my sayd Syster Joane'
When an Alice Handfeld of Brabourne left a will in 1553 she left a bequest to Agnes, daughter of Hamon Handvile. I think this was probably the Hamon who married Joan Halke, since no other daughters were mentioned the marriage was probably of this Agnes.
Hamon had mentioned a daughter Alice in his will, but also refers to the child his wife was pregnant with; it looks as though Alice may have died and the unborn child been named Agnes.
Perhaps this marriage resulted in marriages of cousins, or else the Kennards and Handviles were already connected.
Marriage licences suggest that in 1611 Edward Kennard married Martha Hanefeild and that in 1595 John Kennard had married Joan Hanvill.
In 1613 there was a marriage licence for the marriage of Richard Kenward to Frances Handfield.
