      We cannot discover who Elizabeth married from the censuses, since no husband is with her in the 1851 or 61 censuses, despite her being shown as married and not a widow.
      From the marriage and baptism registers it seems clear that the NN Stephens = Elizabeth NN marriage for this couple was that of Richard Stephens to Elizabeth Ley. It was the only one in Totnes at an appropriate time, and baptisms of 2 children in Totnes who fit those of this couple as in the census show the father as Richard, and to add to that her maiden name was given as a middle name to one child.
