  • Name John ROSE
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born Est 1428
    • Very rough estimate - based on a series of estimates, from estimate of dob of his son Thomas (qv) ...
    Gender Male
    Miscellaneous 1450
    Jack Cade's uprising
    • The manifestor of the uprising, the 'Complaint of the Commons of Kent', called for political reform. It found much support amongst the gentry and developing middle class, including the Abbot of Battle Abbey (which owned the Manor of Wye).
After Jack Cade's party defeated royal forces in Sevenoaks they occupied London.
Negotiations led to the Complaint being accepted and pardons issued. Those pardoned on 6 July included one John Rose of Wye. I can't be sure there was only the one John Rose of Wye who could have taken part but it seems likely it was this John Rose.
