Barbara WOTTON
Set As Default Person -
Name Barbara WOTTON Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born - I don't know that Richard and ELizabeth had a daughter Barbara, just that it seems likely that my ancestor William Wotton (d. 1670) probably had a sister Barbara, so IF Richard and Elizabeth were William's parents then they probably did!
I think he probably had a sister Barbara because:
1. His son William in his will mentions a cousin "Richard Clift of Brixham"
2. Admon. of the estate of a Walter Wootton of Townstal (Dartmouth) was granted to a Barbara Cliffe, sister in 1644
It could well be that Richard Clift was a cousin of William junior through being the son of Barbara, and both Walter and Barbara siblings of his father.

Family CLIFFE, d. Yes, date unknown Married - Admon. for the estate of one Walter Wotton, a widower of Townstal, was granted to his sister, Barbara Cliffe, in 1649.
Since the Exeter goldsmith William Wotton, who was from Blackawton and whose mother was from Dartmouth, left a bequest to his 'Cozen Richard Clift of Brixham' I think it probable that the above Walter and Barbara were siblings of Willam's father, and that Barbara had a son Richard, the one William mentioned in his will.
The fact a Richard married in Townstal and was buried in Brixham at dates consistent with him being the one mentioned in the will add further weight to my theory.
IF TRUE, then this suggests there is a link between my Wotton ancestors and the Harberton Wottons, since after the death of the above Walter in 1649 there were Court of Chancery case(s) between Barbara Cliffe and a Walter Cliffe (in one she is named as wife, but in another Walter appears again but appears not to be Barbara's husband, since she was a widow at the time) and a Walter Wotton and his wife Prothesia. The unusual name of the wife of the Walter in the dispute identifies him as a Harberton Wotton.
I now have copies of all the documents I know of concerning the admon of Barbara's brother Walter's estate, but have not had time to read through all of them some not easy to read, some damaged with parts illegible or missing)
