Walter WOTTON
Set As Default Person -
Name Walter WOTTON Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born - I don't know that Richard and ELizabeth had a son Walter, just that it seems likely that my ancestor William Wotton (d. 1670) probably had a brother Walter, so IF Richard and Elizabeth were William's parents then they probably did!
I think he probably had a brother Walter because:
1. His son William in his will mentions a cousin "Richard Clift of Brixham"
2. Admon. of the estate of a Walter Wootton of Townstal (Dartmouth) was granted to a Barbara Cliffe, sister in 1644
It seems probable that Richard Clift was a cousin of William junior through being the son of Barbara, and both Walter and Barbara siblings of his father.
It is of course possible that Richard was not a 1st cousin of William; if instead he was a second cousin then Barbara and Walter would be 1st cousins of William senior, rather than siblings.
Gender Male Probate Inventory 1644 - In 'Devon Inventories' - DCRS Vol. 11 (no. 119, p.74)
Died Abt 1644 - Admon was granted for a widower Walter Wotton of Townstal in 1649 (from the Devon Wills Project). For the reasons given in his birth notes I think he was a relation.
An inventory for a Walter Wotton of Townstal, gent, was drawn up in 1644 (also from the Devon Wills Project) - I'm not sure if this was the same Walter.
It would seem Walter with the inventory was a Wotton alias Gale, a pair of surnames used by a William of Bickington and so pointing to a link to him and possibly that parish.

- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 9 Jun 2015)"[June 17(?)] Walter Wotton and Joane Browne" - 'Anno Dni1609'
Clearly 1609, probably June 17. All the entries on the page have a date on the left and most a month except this one. It seems clear when the month is omitted it is the same as the one above. I suspect with the date also admitted it is because it too is the same as the date above, but can't be sure of this (marriages were not frequent in the parish - the next was not until August 1610)
