There appear to have been at least 2 Roger Mathews having children baptised in Townstall at the same time. Maybe both or all were descended from and named after Roger Mathew (d. 1646), MP for Dartmouth from the Parliament of 1621 to that of 1644. Children of a Roger in Dartmouth (all events at St Clements unless shown otherwise): Hannah, bapt 9 May 1673, bur 2 Dec 1676 Elizabeth, bapt 5 Jun 1675 Sarah, bapt 21 Jan 1676/77, bur 23 Sep 1677 Cornelius, bapt 30 Mar 1679 John, bapt 19 Oct 1679, Jane, bapt 9 Mar 1679/80, bur 8 Sep 1680 too late to be this Roger's, and late enough probably not a couple with a  Roger having children the same time as this one (or no children because at sea?): Judath bapt 13 Jul 1686, father Roger Mathus mariner Selman (son) bapt 17 Sep 1693 [St Saviours] (a Roger Mathews had marr Agnes Selman at St Saviours o 24 Nov 1692) bef this Roger married, or in an earlier marriage: Elizabeth. bapt 25 Dec 1664 'in Dartmo Church [St Saviours?] by Mr Batterslee' (bet births recorded in St Clements register in 1661 and 1662) Roger, bapt  16 Jan 1667 Barbery, bapt 22 Aug 1669 - 'Daughter of Roger Mathews: marinor' (only 1 between 1635 and 1664: Thomasin bapt 6 Sep 1647 [St Saviours] ** chk where St Clements bapt start (on FMP) **   a Roger was bur 20 Jul 1669 who was not shown as 'son of ...'
