Robert GARDENER
Set As Default Person -
Name Robert GARDENER Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born - As fertility drops with age an increasing gap between children is not that unusual, but 7 years is a particularly large gap. Were there other children baptised elsewhere, a baptism in Stokenham missing or was Robert not a young baby when baptised? I think all clergy knew that they would be called on from time to time to provide evidence of a marriage or baptism, and the latter were used to indicate age, hence an age or date of birth was included when a person was not a young baby. I expect that as with everything else, though, mistakes occasionally occured.
Jane would have been getting on a bit to have another child in 1793, but definitely not too old (assuming the age at death recorded in the burial register is accurate).
I suspect Robert was a young baby at baptism and so born no more than a few months before that.
