    Notes
    • (Research):Mary was "of this parish" (i.e. Hoath) when she married, but I don't know of any Goatham family in Hoath after Edward, Mary's gt gt uncle, died in 1688. It looks like she had moved from elsewhere; I wondered if the Ramsgate Goathams kept in touch with cousins in Hoath that led her to move to the area.
However, I've now found marriages in 1722 and 1729 of Marys from Ramsgate, which seems to suggest it wasn't one of the two I know of there that married Henry Rayner.

I think that Mary was most likely the daughter of Richard Goatham and Mary née Cock, who had a number of children born between 1690 and (probably) 1713. There appears to have been a gap between 1707 and 1712, although a daughter buried in 1713/1714 was described as an infant; could she have been so described if born in that gap? I think it possible but unlikely, especially as I have found no baptism - she may have been baptised at home because sick, an event more likely to have been accidentally omitted, or perhaps died before she could be baptised.
I think it very likely there was another child born in that gap. Could that child have been Mary? I think it quite likely it was.

Goatham was a very rare name at this time, and looking at couples / individuals whose
