"[Feb:] 25 Anne Eastly spinster was buried : Affid : was brought the 29th day"

n.b. Ann is shown as a spinster in the burial register. This might at first suggest she could not be a married (or widowed) woman. However, I believe at this time it was not being used to mean a single woman, but one whose occupation was spinning. It is noticeable that on this page of burials although not one woman is recorded without a description, there is no one shown as a widow. There is an Almes woman, a gentlewoman, several 'wife of [name] [occupation or status]' and a number of spinsters. In another register I have seen an entry 'widow and spinster', this was not peculiar to Stokenham.
However, whilst I do not believe it means Ann was unmarried, I am not sure if it would have been used if her husband were still living.
Maybe it would, especially if Thomas was no longer able to work (he was 73 and maybe had health issues), so maybe it was Ann's spinning that supported them.
