William Gloyn, a dockyard fitter, met with a terrible death
to-day. He was at work on board the curiser Hermoine at
Devonport, and as he was creeping through a manhole leading
to one of the bunkers he somehow displaced a prop which was
supporting the sliding cover, and the cover, thus released, in-
stantly fell into its position. The man's head was unfortu-
nately in the way, and his skull was crushed in a shocking
manner, death resulting very shortly afterwards.

Unfortunately some of the lead letters have dropped off, mainly those around the carved flowers at the top of the stone, but the pin holes and marks left make it just decipherable.
