John NARRAMORE
Set As Default Person -
Name John NARRAMORE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 17 Jan 1664/65 St. John the Baptist Church, Bishopsteignton, Devon, England
[1] Gender Male Will 18 Dec 1698 Kingskerswell, Devon, England
Written - The surviving copy of the will, in the middle of an answer to a bill of complaint brought in the Court of Chancery, is dated 1688. However, this doesn't seem to make sense unless several unlikely things are true. However, everything fits well without these unlikely circumstances if the scribe made just one small error, and wrote 1688 in place of 1698 or 1699. I am assuming that is what happened in the dates given here. (See marriage notes below for more regarding the dates).
Finding the baptisms of the John's children named in the will should confirm whether the date of the will was 1688 or some years later.
I have still a fair bit of transcribing to do of the documents relating to the disputes that arose after John's death; there may be more evidence regarding the date of the will in them. From glancing at them it would appear John was still alive when cited indentures were created in 1695 and 1696, so if he did write his will in 1688, although he was writing it because he was sick he must have survived that illness.
Died Abt 1699 - I am assuming that John died soon after writing his will, which I think he probably did in December 1698.

Other Partners: William BALL m. 17 Aug 1699Married Abt 1688 - John possibly married a cousin, since his mother and his wife's maiden names were both WILLS.
Regarding the date:
TNA document says
"Anne Narramore & John her son did in or about the sd year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred eighty & eight upon his the sd John Narramores intermarriage with Agnes Wills now the wife of William Ball both Defts to the now Complts bill & in consideracon of the sd marriage & before the solempnizacon thereof by deed convey ..." - yet the document quoting John's will also gives the date 1688 for him writing it, and in it he refers to his 4 children.
Either one of the dates is wrong or John was married before. However, if I have the right baptism for him, he was rather young to have had several children by an earlier marriage.
I think most likely the date of the will is wrong - 1698 would fit much better, or if the scribe mis-read a nine as an eight he may have done so with both digits and the year been 1699.
