John BUSSEY

-
Name John BUSSEY Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1739 (probably), North Lopham, Norfolk, England - Date based on age in burial register
Where was John born / baptised?
His younger siblings were baptised (and so most likely born) in North Lopham, from 1741 to 1750, and his parents had also married there.
It would therefore seem likely that that was where John was born, unless his mother had gone to stay with relations in another parish for her confinement and John was born there.
Browsing the AT images on FamilySearch they jump from a page with entries for 1738 (including John's parents marriage) to 1740. If the records for 1739 are missing that could explain why there is no baptism for him in the transcription on FreeReg.
Although not available online, as image or transcript, Phillimore's Atlas shows that the PRs for North Lopham survive from 1558, so I plan eventually to check them in Norfolk (if they don's go online first). The Norfolk Record Office website confirms this and also show that ATs and BTs survive from 1691.
Although John was "of Elden" at the time of his marriage, that means that that was where he was then living. I know of no reason to suppose he was born there.
Gender Male Residence 1766 Elden, Norfolk, England - John was "of Elden" at the time he got married
Died Nov 1816 Larling, Norfolk, England - (assumed from burial)
Buried 22 Nov 1816 St. Ethelbert’s Church, Larling, Norfolk, England - PR shows John Bussey as having abode Larling, aged 77 years, ceremony performed by A. J. Warner, Curate.
Siblings
3 brothers and 2 sisters Patriarch & Matriarch William BUSSEY, b. Abt 1705, d. Nov 1792, Larling, Norfolk, England(Age ~ 87 years) (Father)
Hosanna COOK, b. Between 1700 and 1722, d. Between 1750 and 11 Nov 1792 (Age ~ 50 years) (Mother)Notes - (Research):Although I have not yet found the baptism of John I believe he was probably the son of William and Hosanna because:
- names: he gave one of his daughters the very unusual name Hosanna;
- Larling: although "of Elden" when he married after his marriage the family appear to have lived in Larling; William and Hosanna appear to have moved to Larling between 1748 (when a child was bapt in North Lopham) and 1750 (when a child was bapt in Larling); aged about 10 John would probably have moved with his parents, so may have been returning to the parish of his birth (willingly or unwillingly due to settlement).
- it would be unusual for a marriage in 1738 if there was no child until 1741; John fills the gap nicely!
But although it seems unlikely that a Bussey other than a child of Hosanna would be giving a child the name Hosanna at this time, it's not impossible. If, for example, William and Hosanna brought up a nephew he might name a child after his aunt in this way.
