Notes - (Research):I am not really investigating the Gloyn family going back - the children of Joshua and Anne are very distant cousins, but I am not aware that I am related to Joshua himself or his siblings etc.
However,
1. after learning of the sad demise of William Henry in the dockyard and seeing that one of his brothers (at least) was in the navy I thought I'd look for them in the TNA catalogue;
2. seeing the gravestone of a John and Charlotte Gloyn at Tamerton Foliot I wondered if these were Joshua's parents.
The censuses etc. suggest Joshua was born abot 1834 in Tamerton. The PRs have the baptism of a Joshua Gloyne in Tamerton in 1834; just the one - son fo Robert and Elizabeth. And Joshua's marriage certificate - shows his father was John!
The 1841 census shows Joshua with Robert and Elizabeth, he was shown as their son in 1851 and in 1861 an Ann I believe was Joshua's wife appears as the widowed Elizabeth's daughter in law, so it seems the name 'John' on the marriage certificate is an error.
