Name Adam BATY Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Gender Male Will 2 Nov 1694 Written - Adam describes himself as 'Clerke' in his will, which at this time usually meant he was a priest. The CCEd website does not appear to have any data on Adam, at least not under Faversham, and not indexed (not all data is indexed by surname at the time or writing, 30 Nov 2015). The fact the burial register describes him as a gentleman suggests he may have had independent means and have not been working, which could be why there is no data for him on CCEd.
The will of Adam Baty (d. 1694/95)
This will confirms he was the husband of Abigail, who subsequently married Michael Rickson.
A very simple will, the usual bequests of body and soul, revocation of former wills. payment of debts, then everything to wife Abigail who was also to be executrix. No children mentioned. Most interesting is his description of himself as 'Clerke'.Buried 28 Jan 1694/95 St. Mary of Charity Church, Faversham, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP)
"[Jan:] 28 Adam Beaty Gentl" - under heading '1694' (clearly 1694/5)
Probate 6 Mar 1694/95 Consistory Court, Canterbury, Kent, England Notes - (Research):Most priests were educated at Oxford or Cambridge; I cannot find Adam in either Alumni Oxonienses or Alumni Cantabrigienses.
Another (later) Adam BATTY can be found in CCEd and Alumni Cantabrigienses - unusually the latter does not show his father's name. It wouldn't surprise me if this other Adam, probably born c. 1698, was a relation of this Adam, maybe a nephew or great nephew.
