    • Till I find baptism it's unsafe to assume Arthur was the son of James as James' brother Arthur married in Charleton in 1678.

      (Arthur was an uncommon Christian name but in Charleton in 1646 there was a baptism "Thomas(?) the sonne of Mr Arthur Ryder and ?? his wife was baptized November the :6:" - were the Steeds related to this family or did this gentry family give them the idea of using the name?)
