Set As Default Person -
Name Edward PHILLIPS Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 30 Jan 1681/82 St. Mary’s Church, Newington next Sittingbourne, Kent, England
[1] Gender Male Buried 14 Jan 1767 St. Mary’s Church, Newington next Sittingbourne, Kent, England
[2] Notes - Edward's father, Benjamin, described as a labourer at his burial in February 1703/4. He was quickly followed to the grave by his widow, Alice, in June 1704, so that when Edward married Anne he was a young man who had recently been bereaved of both of his parents. Did this seek him to find solace in a wife?
He appears to have quickly re-married after her death, perhaps responding in the same way to bereavement, for little more than a year later the daughter of an Edward and Mary was baptised in Newington.
Although it looks like Edward probably only had the one child with Anne, he had no fewer than nine children with Mary, baptised in Newington between 1729 and 1744. Two of these, the first born, Elizabeth, and a daughter with the unusual name Autheneth died in infancy (the same year as they were baptised), while the second-born, Edith, died aged just 7.
His widow Mary died a year after Edward.
