Scholar Occupation From 1861 to 1897 Chemist and Druggist - In 1861 he was working as an assistant for chemists and druggists Charles Row and his son Alfred, living and probably working at 90 Fore Street, Devonport.
By 1871 he was one of 6 assistants to Wm. R. Basker(?), a chemist in New Bond Street, Westminster.
At the time of his marriage in 1878 he was simply shown as 'chemist'.
He then spent some time in India - could the name "Froacher & Co." be the same as Basker / Baucher?
Back in England, for some years Erasmus worked in partnership with an Arthur Hooley and Albert Edward Bertie Smith, under the name "Bertie Smith and Company" but they wound this up in 1897 - the year of Erasmus's death; perhaps his health was declining and this player a part in this.
The ending of the partnership was announced in the London Gazette of 9 February 1897:
"Notice is hereby given that the Partnership hitherto subsisting between us the undersigned Arthur Hooley Erasmus Beynon and Albert Smith carrying on business at Lordship-lane London S.E. or any other place or places as Wholesale Druggists Patent Medicine Proprietors and General Merchants under the style or firm of Bertie Smith and Company has been dissolved by mutual consent as from this date. All debts due to and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Arthur Hooley and Erasmus Beynon. - As witness our hands this 8th day of January 1897.

Notes - (Research):Haven't found in the 1881 and 1891 census - thought at 1st could be because name mis-transcribed but I think more likely because the family was in India (son born there in c.1883 and "The Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society" shows that a 'Mr. Erasmus Beynon' was elected a member on 11th December 1888.
The Proceedings of the Royal Colonial Institute (17th volume, 1885 - 6) includes in its list of members "BEYNON, ERASMUS,, care of Messrs. Froacher(?) & Co., Limited, Bombay, India." This is a transcription produced by ocr and so Froacher could well be slightly inaccurate.
