Margrett GRIGSBY, [Parents Uncertain]
Set As Default Person -
Name Margrett GRIGSBY Suffix [ONS gp] [Parents Uncertain] Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1563 Baptised - There was a "Margeret Grigbie" baptised on 21 Nov 1564 in Cranbrook (KFHS CD 02/07); the only Grigsby bapt (1559 - 1812), no parents names given. I thought she might be the daughter of John of Marden. However, since I have read that at that time most babies were baptised very young (on the day of birth, or within a day or 2 - studies using the few baptism registers from that time with a DOB) and John had a son Guy bapt 6 June 1565 (and Guy survived so not likely to have been 2 or 3 months premature) it seems unlikely Margaret was John's daughter.
In addition, although Margaret's baptism was the only one in Cranbrook there were a number of other Grigsby families in the area.
KFHS data transcribed from Marden PRs and BTs shows that a Grigsby daughter was baptised in 1560 - maybe this was John's daughter Margaret? - if he had one. I may have attached the burial to a daughter of the wrong John.
Gender Female Buried 7 Jun 1593 St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Marden, Kent, England
- KFHS CD 25 ("Margrett Grigsby" - dau. of John)
If a daughter of John as on my tree then probably an adult one, but I have seen other registers of this era show the names of a parent of an adult (where I can be more certain of the identity e.g. due to a will that ties in with the death)
However, Margaret could be the granddaughter of the John I shows as her father.
