Damaris NORTHMORE
Set As Default Person -
Name Damaris NORTHMORE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 6 Jan 1806 St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, Cornwood, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 12 Jan 2013)
Under heading "Baptisms 1806" -
"Feb. 1 Damaris Northmore Daughter of Damaris Northmore"
This Damaris was baptised about 3 weeks after the Damaris I believe must have been her mother was married. Many brides were pregnant when they married; I guess that in this case the baby arrived too soon!
An illegitimate baby could not be married by its parents marriage at that time and I guess this is why she is shown as a Northmore rather than a Phillipps.
The baptism entry is not clear; at this time the surname was usually only shown after the parent(s), not the child - so was Northmore a baptismal name, making her Damaris Northmore NORTHMORE, or was it just to make it doubly clear she was a Northmore not a Phillips?
