  	GRO ref: DONOGHUE, Thomas q3 1847 Poplar RD 2 333; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Hyde (nb/ registration of Thomas and Margaret can't both be the possible ones I've shown) Shown as aged 10 or 11 (1851 census), 15 (1861 census), 22 (1871 census), 36 (1881 census) - if the above GRO ref is correct the age was never given correctly, as Thomas would have been 3, 13, 23 and 33 at census time, but the registration is in the middle (making the age on 2 censuses too young, the other 2 too old)! Usually most accurate when young but in this case that is the 1851 census which is most out. I wonder if his age was given as 4 (he would have been, later in the year) but the 2 downstrokes misread by the enumerator as 11 - maybe the cross stroke was along a line?

  	* Marriage assumed from banns, and because they subsequently lived as man and wife * Date an estimate based on date of banns; place based on banns which showed both were of this parish. However, there seems to be no entry for this marriage in the marriage register (not just from index, but browsed the register, checked from 15th Dec 1833, the date of the last reading to end of the following March). Maybe there was an obstacle and they couldn't, or they just didn't bother (for some reason Martha's brother John did not marry his 'wife') or (I think most likely) perhaps a marriage did follow the banns but the priest forgot to enter it in the register. There was often more than one on a given day at this church, so forgetting one would probably not have been difficult. Whoever in the family provided the census data seems to have been very approximate - ages of children seem quite variable. I have found some birth registration refs that could be theirs, haven't checked censuses for other children with the same name / born Poplar RD.
