  	The baptism of children 1765-1772 suggest John and Barbara had lived in Buckland Monachorum parish for some time, and Barbara's birthplace is shown on their gravestone, so I guess when John is described as "of Hexworthy in the parish of Widecombe otherwise Lidford" it means that that is where he originally came from, i.e. probably where he was born. Date from age on gravestone. John may well be a relation in his own right; not only do I have a direct ancestor, Elizabeth Hannaford (b c1745-1765), who married in Widecombe, but she married George Vogwell (b c 1752) who lived in Hexworthy as a boy. It is quite likely, therefore, that Elizabeth was from the Hexworthy area too - especially given that the area is quite remote, and about 6 miles from Widecombe village.

From gravestone "In memory of John Hannaford of Hexworthy in the parish of Widecombe otherwise Lidford Also Barbara his wife native of the parish of Sheepstor late both of Yeoland in this parish John died March 17th 1807 aged 68 years Barbara died July 13th 1808 aged 74 years O thou friend or stranger who shall read These solemn mansions of the silent dead Oh pause - reflect, repent, resolve, amend Life has no length - eternity no end. This stone erected by their son John Hannaford as a small tribute of Duty and Affection."
